Da Nang works to build civilized, professional tourism environment

DNO - Da Nang’s tourism industry has introduced its Tourism Culture Code to the business community and tourism practitioners in an effort to gradually build a civilized, professional and sustainable tourism environment.

Issued by the municipal People’s Committee, the Da Nang Tourism Culture Code has the official communication brand name of the Da Nang SMILE.

The purpose of the code is to guide civilized and cultural behaviors, attitudes and manners in tourism activities in the city, thereby helping to ensure the better organization of tourism activities citywide.

The code applies to two groups of subjects: agencies, organizations and individuals at destinations; and domestic and international tourists to Da Nang.

Each group is guided by five criteria: traffic culture, behavioral culture, business culture, service culture, and environmental protection culture.

The criteria are built with a concise, easy-to-remember, and easy-to-spread message. They are vividly visualized, and designed with colors associated with stunning landscapes of the new Da Nang city.

In addition to shaping civilized and cultural conduct in tourism activities, and building and maintaining the image of a green, clean, beautiful and hospitable Da Nang, the code aims to promote cultural behavior criteria to tourists at destinations and recommend inappropriate behaviors in order to improve the connections between tourists and local destinations.

According to Ms. Le Thi Be Phuong, Manager of the Almanity Hoi An Resort and Spa in Hoi An Tay Ward, although accommodation establishments have their own criteria and regulations on staff conduct, a common code will create greater consistency in the hospitality industry.

Recognizing the importance of the human factor in behavior and communication with customers, the resort has organized training activities for its staff to enhance their skills in communication and customer service, especially for those who regularly come into contact with customers, Ms. Phuong informed.

In the coming time, the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will work closely with relevant agencies, localities, tourism associations, and the business community to deploy the Da Nang SMILE code at destinations and tourism service providers to ensure its citywide adoption.
