DNO - As part of the seminar titled “Ngoc Linh Ginseng - From National Product to Global Brand”, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Quang Buu held a meeting on Sunday with Dr. Yang Deok-chun and a group of experts and representatives of the Korean Society of Ginseng (KSG).

Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu welcomed Dr. Yang Deok Chun and the South Korean experts attending the festival and scientific seminar.
He noted that the Vietnamese Government has recently approved a project to establish a medicinal herb industrial center, with Ngoc Linh ginseng identified as the key crop and linked to a strategy for developing a deep-processing value chain.
According to the city leader, central ministries and agencies are showing their keen interest in developing the medicinal herb industry. They also expect that within the next decade, Vietnam’s ginseng industry could approach the level of development achieved by South Korea.

Mr. Buu voiced his hope that Dr. Yang Deok Chun and other experts would act as a bridge to support Da Nang and Vietnam as a whole to achieve their development goals and expectations.
During the meeting, Dr. Yang Deok Chun and the South Korean experts shared many valuable experience.
They also emphasized the central role of specialized research institutes and the importance of regularly organizing international seminars and forums to promote and spread brand value.

The delegates also pointed out that Vietnam’s current ginseng output remained modest and cultivation areas were still limited.
To ensure sufficient supply for export, they underlined the necessity to preserve authentic genetic resources and accelerate the application of science and technology to expand planned cultivation zones.
In addition, they also stressed the need for the Vietnamese government to have mechanisms and policies for strategic investment in deep processing in order to increase the added value of ginseng products.
Based on these realities, experts and society representatives proposed strengthening cooperation between authorities and businesses of the two countries, thereby creating momentum for the sustainable development of Vietnam’s ginseng industry.
