According to VITAS (the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association) Chairman Vu Duc Giang, in 2025, exports were estimated at USD 46 billion, up 5.6%, with a trade surplus of about USD 21 billion and a domestic value-added ratio of roughly 52%.

He noted that geopolitical tensions, tariff pressures, and rapid advances in automation and AI have been reshaping the industry, pushing firms toward new strategies, multinational expansion, technological investment, and stronger commitments to sustainability and green transformation.

Truong Van Cam from VITAS said, Vietnam’s textile and garment exports reached 138 markets in 2025, including the U.S., Europe, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, and China, and growing shipments to the Commonwealth of Independent States, Africa, and the Middle East. Currently, U.S. tariffs remain largely unchanged, and enterprises are negotiating orders for early 2026.

Economic expert Can Van Luc warned that new trade barriers and tariffs from the U.S. and EU, along with rising logistics and green compliance costs, will challenge the industry in 2026.

He stressed the need for prudent risk management, long-term financial resilience, and faster digital transformation to improve productivity and move up the value chain.

Over the past five years, VITAS has added 293 new members, strengthened links between domestic and FDI enterprises, and promoted trade through national and self-initiated programmes, helping Vietnamese firms expand market share at major international exhibitions.

The association has also deepened international cooperation, organising nearly 300 seminars and training programmes on technology, design, and sustainable, low-emission transformation.

In the period of 2025 - 2030, VITAS has set a target of USD 64.5 billion in exports by 2030, prioritising green and digital transformation, raising localisation rates above 60%, developing Vietnamese fashion brands, and strengthening supply-chain linkages through market diversification and automation.
