Accordingly, Vietnam scored 6.52 out of 7 in the safety and security category, up 18 places compared to 2024. This is one of the significant advantages that contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and appeal of Vietnam's tourism in the international market.

The TTDI 2026 report values the tourism development capacity of economies based on 17 pillars, including 102 component indicators, ranging in value from 1 (worst) to 7 (best).

Vietnam had 13 out of 17 pillar indicators ranked from above average to top in the world. The security and safety index alone reached 6.52 points, ranking 9th globally, in the same group as leading countries such as Singapore, Qatar, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, and others.

As global tourism faces the impacts of such issues as natural disasters, and high travel expenditure, its safety and security become critical factors in travelers' destination choices.

Alongside favorable visa policies, expanded air connectivity, and product diversification, a safe tourism environment is expected to further bolster international traveler confidence. This creates a foundation for sustained growth and enhanced competitiveness for Vietnam's tourism sector.

Vietnam welcomed more than 17.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2026, up 14.5% from the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Office. This figure means Vietnam has achieved nearly 71% of its target of welcoming 25 million international visitors in 2026.
