Building on established destinations such as Tam Thanh, Tam Tien, Tam Hai, Huong Tra, Dam River and Phu Ninh Lake, the city is making efforts to reorganize its tourism space, develop distinctive products and connect individual attractions into seamless travel experiences.

Distinctive tourism hub rich in cultural identity

The southern part of Da Nang is endowed with diverse tourism resources, including Chien Dan Towers, Ky Anh Tunnels, the Heroic Vietnamese Mother Monument; Say wetlands along the Dam River, Tam Thanh Community Art Village, Tam Thanh and Tam Tien beaches, and the island commune of Tam Hai; Phu Ninh Lake, Loc Yen Ancient Village and destinations in mountainous and highland areas.

The part is also relatively accessible via National Highway 1, Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, Da Nang - Chu Lai coastal route and National Highway 40B.

Notably, local tourism resources are increasingly being packaged into marketable products by businesses.

In particular, six travel companies have developed nearly 25 tour programs for promotion and sale to visitors. New themes have also been introduced, including “Journey to experience the pristine nature of southern Da Nang”, “Touching the Pristine - Journey to Legendary Mount Ngoc Linh”, “Legends of Quang Land - Peaceful Nature”, and “Journey to historical revolutionary sites.”

Expanding the tourism space southward is important for diversifying tourism products, redistributing visitor flows, extending stays and spreading tourism benefits to localities and communities.

Mr. Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism

The municipal People's Committee has recently given a green light to develop key tourism areas in the south for the 2026 - 2030 period.

Under the plan, the key tourism space covers seven areas: Tam Ky, Ban Thach, Huong Tra, Quang Phu, Tam Xuan, Tam Hai and Phu Ninh.

The urban area comprising Tam Ky, Ban Thach, Huong Tra and Quang Phu will serve as the core, linking tourism with trade, services, education and the night-time economy.

It will be connected with Phu Ninh, Tam Xuan, Tam Hai and neighboring areas to develop ecotourism, community-based tourism, cultural and historical tourism, beach resorts and travel experiences.

By 2030, the city aims to officially put at least seven tourism destinations into operation across the seven key areas, with each area developing at least one signature tourism product.

At the same time, it plans to launch 12 - 15 new tourism programs. These tours will focus on various themes such as community-based tourism, biodiversity research, ecotourism, agricultural tourism, cultural and historical tourism, heritage and revolutionary-site tours, indigenous cultural experiences and nature exploration.

Connecting key attractions to draw more visitors

According to Mr. Le Quoc Viet, Head of the “Xu Quang Destinations” Club, an obvious advantage of southern Da Nang is that its destinations are relatively close to one another while offering distinctly different experiences

For instance, from Tam Ky, visitors can travel to Ban Thach, Dam River, Huong Tra, and Phu Ninh Lake before continuing to Tam Xuan and heading out to the island commune of Tam Hai. The distances are not great, but the landscapes and stories change continuously along the way.

From a travel-industry perspective, Mr. Tran Tan Dien, Director of TADI Trading and Tourism Services Co., Ltd., said attractive scenery is only the starting point.

According to him, for a tour operator, practical matters must be clearly addressed, including parking, group reception arrangements, operating hours, service prices, restrooms, meals and safety conditions.

Dam River, Tam Hai and community-based destinations all have strong potential, but their service procedures need to become more standardized.

Once travel companies can be certain of how visitors will be served upon arrival, tours can be marketed and operated on a stable basis instead of being organized as individual trial groups, he added.

In the coming period, the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is expected to continue connecting local authorities, the Tourism Association and travel companies to support product development, community training, promotional activities and market connections for destinations that are ready for tourism operations.
