"Meet Korea in Da Nang 2026": AI emerges as new driver of growth

DNO - The conference “Meet Korea in Da Nang 2026: Artificial Intelligence (AI) - A New Driver of Growth and Development” took place on August 7.

The event was jointly organized by the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Da Nang.

The conference was co-chaired by Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi and Consul General of the Republic of Korea (RoK) in Da Nang Han Jung Il.

In attendance were representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the RoK in Viet Nam, the Consulate General of the RoK in Da Nang, S. Korean local authorities, organizations, businesses, and experts from both countries.

The conference focused on two strategic themes: policies and orientations for developing an AI ecosystem to serve socio-economic development; and experience sharing and cooperation in promoting innovation and the application of AI.

Da Nang introduced its orientations for developing an AI ecosystem, together with a range of preferential policies and support measures.

Included are exemptions from personal income tax and corporate income tax, as well as support for equipment procurement, digital technology infrastructure rental, premises, and human resources.

S. Korean local authorities also shared their experience in applying AI in public administration and community development.

Notable examples included an AI-powered chatbot for handling public complaints in Yongin, AI-enabled surveillance cameras for accident detection in Gurye County, and an AI ecosystem model for community development in Pyeongtaek.

Addressing the conference, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi emphasised that the event provided an important platform for the two sides to exchange visions, connect ideas, and expand cooperation in AI research, development, and application.

Da Nang remains committed to creating favourable conditions for AI research and development, from ideas to practical implementation, thereby contributing to further deepening the Viet Nam - RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Consul General of the RoK in Da Nang Han Jung Il spoke highly of Da Nang’s strategic focus on developing key sectors, particularly AI, the semiconductor industry, and smart city development.

He expressed his hope that the conference would open up new investment opportunities, promote high-quality human resource training, and serve as a new milestone in joint efforts to advance Da Nang’s technology development strategy.

As part of the conference, delegates witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote friendship and cooperation between Da Nang and Osan City of the RoK, as well as an MOU between the University of Foreign Language Studies under the University of Da Nang and the Hanbat National University, the RoK.

The agreements are expected to provide a stronger foundation for cooperation in education and training, research, innovation, and high-quality technology human resources, further contributing to the deepening of ties between Da Nang and Korean partners.
