On August 25 and 26, the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology organized a number of programmes on IP rights, including IP management in universities, and the role of IP assets for sustainable development of enterprises and startups.

During these programmes, participants were provided with basic and updated knowledge on IP rights. Also, the events created opportunities for experts, enterprises and startup projects citywide to exchange and connect.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Head of the Representative Office of the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam in Da Nang, with a system of over 40 universities, colleges and research institutes, including prestigious research units such as the University of Science and Technology, the University of Technical Education, and the Duy Tan University in the city, enhancing IP management capacity in universities is an urgent requirement. It helps protect research results, support innovative startups, and elevate academic status.

Understanding IP also helps students to be more creative and responsible, as well as respect the efforts of others and protect their own achievements.

As for businesses, especially startups, establishing IP rights in a timely manner helps protect assets, prevent loss of value, and open up opportunities for commercialization through transfer, licensing or capital contribution.

Along with the business community, industrial property rights such as patents, utility solutions, industrial designs, trademarks, copyrights and related rights, are becoming indispensable strategic assets for universities, research institutes and educational institutions.

In the coming time, the municipal Department of Science and Technology will continue to accompany and widely publicize IP in order to enhance the competitiveness of organizations and individuals, thereby contributing to the local socio-economic development.
