DNO - The atmosphere at the reception areas and playing fields for the Heineken Pickleball World Cup 2026 in Da Nang City was bustling yesterday. All preparations for the competition have been completed, starting the largest-ever pickleball event in Vietnam.
Busy check-in area
The check-in area at Tien Son Sport Arena, on Saturday, was bustling when many teams of athletes from various countries and territories around the world arrived in to complete their procedures and collect their athlete ID card .
Athlete Belem Garcia Saavedra (from Mexico), who will compete in the Open category of the national division, said that this was her first time she has arrived in Da Nang. She felt very honored and excited to have an opportunity to exchange with and compete alongside the world's top athletes.
Belem shared that she had just landed at Da Nang International Airport that morning and received a warm welcome while her entry procedures were processed quickly.
Tran Van Nhat, a volunteer coordinator supporting check-in, said that this competition brings together more than 5,000 athletes. Each sports delegation competes in different categories, so the pressure at the check-in area is enormous.
The volunteers have divided their forces into six groups responsible for various country sections, assigning specific tasks to each volunteer to optimize processing time, creating the most favorable conditions for the participants.
Nhat shared that volunteers will cross-check passports in the system, verify the categories and competition events, and confirm that rackets meet the required standards before an athlete ID card will be issued and worn throughout the competition. This volunteer work will run from August 29 until the afternoon of September 2.
Creating the most favourable condition for the competition
The competition events of the Heineken Pickleball World Cup 2026 will take place at Tien Son Sports Arena (Hoa Cuong Ward) and the other sports complexes in the city center. Tien Son Sports Arena will also be the place where the opening ceremony of the competition will take place on the evening of September 2 and the matches of the Vietnam National Team.
Mr. Tao Viet Hai, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said the preparations, including logistics, reception, power, broadcasting systems, sound, lighting, and competition facilities, are ready.
Athletes have begun entering the playing fields for warming up and familiarization with the competition conditions. All departments and workstations are now ready for the opening ceremony.
According to Mr. Hai, alongside more than 5,000 athletes, the tournament is expected to attract a large number of accompanying friends and family members. Consequently, the city has proactively directed accommodation providers, travel agencies, and service businesses to ensure optimal conditions for welcoming these groups.
Beyond the competition itself, Da Nang is providing comprehensive information on sightseeing spots, cultural experiences, and local cuisine to ensure the sports delegations enjoy a memorable time in this city.
The Heineken Pickleball World Cup 2026 brings together athletes from 80 countries and territories. It is considered the largest pickleball tournament ever organized in Vietnam.
The event not only promotes the sports and fitness movement and international integration in line with Central Government and city resolutions on cultural, sports, and tourism development but also serves as a driver for local economic growth, gradually turning sports into Da Nang’s signature tourism product.
The Heineken Pickleball World Cup 2026 taking place on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2) brings great significance. It contributes to affirming the Da Nang brand as a "Destination of Events and Festivals" while promoting the image of a friendly, hospitable, and dynamic Vietnam to international friends.
