Da Nang International Airport set for major expansion

On August 27, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), in coordination with the Da Nang People’s Committee, announced the implementation of two aboe-mentioned projects.

Terminal 1 expansion to raise annual capacity to 14 million passengers

ACV is the investor of the Terminal 1 renovation and expansion project, with total investment exceeding VND9.936 trillion ($376 million).

The project will expand and renovate Terminal 1, raising the airport’s total annual passenger capacity to 14 million, including approximately 10 million domestic passengers and 4 million international passengers.

The investment will cover a comprehensive range of supporting facilities, including improvements to elevated roadways, a technical building, a multi-storey parking facility combined with commercial services, traffic infrastructure, parking areas and landscaping.

It will also include wastewater treatment, waste collection, lighting, water supply and drainage systems, as well as other related technical infrastructure.

Work is scheduled to start on the project in August 2027.

The expanded section of the terminal is expected to be completed and put into operation in January 2029. Meanwhile, the renovation of the existing terminal is scheduled for completion in August 2029.

Six new aircraft parking positions to ease peak-period pressure

The first phase of the aircraft apron expansion will receive more than VND170 billion in investment.

The project will add six Code C aircraft parking positions. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with completion expected in July 2027.

Together, the two projects are designed to increase the airport’s capacity to handle both passengers and aircraft, reduce pressure during peak periods and create room for additional air routes.

The Da Nang International Airport is a strategic transport hub connecting the city with domestic and international centers, while also serving the wider Central Vietnam and Central Highlands region.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Le Quang Nam said airport infrastructure has a direct positive impact on tourism, trade, services and investment attraction.

The expansion is, therefore, considered an urgent requirement as Da Nang seeks to keep pace with growing passenger demand and strengthen its appeal as a destination for both travellers and investors.

According to the city authorities, the two projects will complement each other by improving passenger service capacity, increasing aircraft-handling capability and easing infrastructure constraints during peak travel periods.

The expanded infrastructure is also expected to provide a foundation for new air routes and reinforce Da Nang International Airport’s role as a leading international aviation gateway for Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.
