Da Nang hands over artifacts from former Camp Reasoner to the US

Da Nang held a ceremony on Tuesday to hand over the name sign and guardhouse of the former Camp Reasoner to the United States.

Attendees at the handover ceremony were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang; Major General Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5; Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Quang Buu; along with representatives from the Da Nang Military Command, Department of Public Security, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the War Veterans Association, and other relevant agencies.

Representing the US side were US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks, representatives from the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and staff from the US Embassy and the US Office of the Defense Attaché.

The “Camp Reasoner” name sign was a symbol of the US 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, which was once stationed in Da Nang.

The sign and guardhouse are currently located in the Da Son area of Hoa Khanh Ward.

Vietnam handed over the artifacts at the request of the US side in a spirit of goodwill and humanitarianism.

These artifacts will be used for display and commemoration, helping highlight the values of peace, healing and reconciliation between the two countries.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Quang Buu emphasized that the city has always supported cooperation in addressing the consequences of war, promoting people-to-people exchanges and preserving historical memories for future generations of both Vietnam and the United States.

The event was not only a milestone in preserving and transferring part of the historical memory shared by the two countries, but also conveyed a message about the power of reconciliation.
