DNO - As part of their working visit to Italy, a group of Da Nang’s officials, led by Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh, worked with some partners in Genoa on Tuesday to promote cooperation in the maritime economy, education and urban planning.

During the meeting with Ms. Silvia Salis, Mayor of Genoa, both sides agreed to review and develop specific action programs to implement the signed agreements.

Mayor Silvia Salis proposed that the two cities accelerate digital transformation, strengthen cultural and sports exchanges, and promote the establishment of a shared socio-economic cooperation platform to facilitate business connectivity.

Deputy Secretary Vinh emphasized that following the administrative merger with Quang Nam Province, the new Da Nang city now has a population of over 3 million and continues to maintain impressive economic growth.

Sharing many similarities with Genoa, Da Nang hoped that the Italian locality, renowned for its advanced port infrastructure and high-tech applications, will share experiences and cooperate in such spheres as marine economy, logistics services, seaports, land reclamation technology and marine sports development.

On the occasion, Mr. Vinh invited the Mayor and authorities of Genoa to visit Da Nang at the earliest opportunity.

Also on the same day, the Da Nang delegation had a working session with the leaders of the University of Genoa, an institution with a history of over 600 years.

Based on the consensus of the governments of both cities, Deputy Secretary Nguyen Dinh Vinh proposed that the University of Genoa and the University of Da Nang strengthen practical cooperation models, including exchange of lecturers and students as well as inviting professors from the University of Genoa to participate in scientific councils at the University of Da Nang.

In reply, professor Federico Delfino, Rector of the University of Genoa, affirmed the university’s commitment to effectively implementing the partnership, with a focus on key areas such as maritime training, circular economy, and green economy.

During the working visit, the Da Nang visitors also conducted a field visit to the Waterfront di Levante project, a landmark coastal urban regeneration initiative in Italy designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano.

The project has transformed a former exhibition and industrial port area into a green public waterfront space, harmoniously connecting the city’s historic urban core with the Mediterranean Sea.

Lessons learned from its land reclamation techniques and sustainable planning approach are expected to provide valuable references for Da Nang’s future coastal urban development and planning efforts.
