DNO - During his meeting on Friday with Governor of South Korea’s Chungnam Province Kim Tae-heum, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet expressed his delight at remarkable achievements in cooperative relations with South Korean localities in recent times.
Currently, Da Nang maintains friendly cooperative relations with eight localities of South Korea, namely Changwon, Daegu, Hwaseong, Jeju, Pyeongtaek, Osan, Yongin and Gwangyang.
The city has effectively implemented many cooperation programmes with South Korean localities in various spheres such as tourism, training, personnel exchange, and cultural exchange, as well as experience sharing on green transportation and smart city building.
He added Chungnam Province and Da Nang shared many similarities, notably their role as important economic centers in each country's region, and the strong development of manufacturing, hi-tech and logistics industries.
Both Chungnam and Da Nang boasted favourable geographical locations and modern seaports, as well as had rare and valuable ginseng species (ginseng and Ngoc Linh ginseng), he added.
In reply, Governor Kim Tae-heum thanked the city's leader for his warm welcome. He also took the opportunity to congratulate Da Nang on its rapid growth and prominent position on the international tourism map.
He expressed his joy at the prospects for cooperation between Da Nang and Chungnam in the coming time.
According to Mr. Kim Tae-heum, Chungnam Province has the third largest gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in South Korea. Major industries include semiconductors, computer components, cosmetics, and medical equipment.
The province is also famous for its agricultural products such as ginseng, strawberries, pine needles, apples, garlic, melons, chili peppers, and grapes. In addition to economic achievements, Chungnam is also proud of its long-standing cultural history.
Also at the meeting, Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet and Chungnam Governor Kim Tae Heum witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs and the Representative Office of Chungnam Province in Vietnam. This agreement aims to promote friendship and cooperation between the two localities.
Under the deal, the two agencies will boost foreign affairs and bilateral cooperation activities in many fields including economy, industry, culture, arts, healthcare, agriculture, medicinal herbs, education and training.
Also, the two sides will actively participate in promotional events and exhibitions in each locality, while promoting people-to-people exchanges and other areas of mutual interest.
