DNO - Vietnam is set to become one of the most popular overseas destinations for South Korean travellers during this year’s Chuseok holiday, according to new data released by Seoul-based travel company Nol Universe.

The analysis, compiled by Nol, Nol Interpark Tour, and Triple Reservation, reveals that bookings for Vietnam, particularly to Da Nang and Phu Quoc have surged nearly 40% compared with the same period last year.

Chuseok, S. Korea’s harvest festival and most important holiday, will last an unusually long 10 days this year, from October 3 to 12, creating what the industry calls the “October Golden Week”.

Alongside Vietnam, Japan remains a favorite destination for South Korean travellers. Together, the two countries top the list for international bookings, which overall rose 37% year-on-year for the holiday period.

Popular Japanese cities include Osaka, Fukuoka, and Narita, with high demand for tickets on the Osaka Nankai Rapi:t Limited Express train.

Vietnam, however, stands out for its strong appeal in packaged tours. Five-day itineraries to Da Nang (now including Hoi An) and Phu Quoc have been among the most frequently booked options, highlighting the country's growing reputation as a convenient and family-friendly choice for S. Korean tourists.

The report also shows that Vietnam and Japan lead in overseas accommodation bookings by South Koreans for Chuseok, further underscoring the two markets’ dominance in holiday travel.

Travel experts note that the extended holiday, combined with increased flight connectivity and competitive tour packages, is giving Vietnam a decisive edge in attracting S. Korean tourists.

For Da Nang in particular, long considered a “second home” for S. Korean visitors thanks to its beaches, resorts and proximity to UNESCO heritage sites, this surge offers both economic opportunities and a chance to strengthen cultural ties.

With South Koreans forming one of the largest inbound tourist groups to Vietnam in recent years, the Chuseok travel boom is expected to reaffirm Vietnam’s status as a leading short-haul holiday destination in Asia.
