DNO - The My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board and the Thu Bon Commune People’s Committee recently signed a coordination agreement, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of heritage management and protection.

Under the deal, the two agencies will regularly share information on socio-economic conditions, public security and order, land management, construction and environmental issues within the heritage site and its buffer zone.
They will also promptly detect, prevent and address violations, including damage to monuments, illegal encroachment on land, unauthorized construction, illegal resource exploitation and activities that adversely affect the landscape and environment of the My Son Sanctuary.
Authorities in Thu Bon Commune will direct local villages, mass organizations and residents to participate in heritage protection, maintain environmental sanitation, and raise public awareness of regulations on heritage conservation.
The My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board will take the lead in professional conservation, restoration, embellishment and rehabilitation efforts.
It will also be responsible for providing guidance to local authorities on handling issues related to heritage protection.

At the same time, the two sides will step up efforts to promote the historical, cultural, architectural and archaeological values of My Son, as well as organize appropriate cultural and artistic activities, festivals and heritage education programs.
Notably, local residents will be encouraged to get involved in developing tourism products, traditional crafts, cuisine and cultural activities.
The two agencies will further organize events, mobilize resources, conduct community outreach and education, and periodically review the implementation of the agreement.
The cooperation aims to strengthen the responsibilities of local authorities, management agencies and residents in safeguarding the World Heritage site for the long term, as well as create greater opportunities for tourism development and improve the livelihoods of communities in the heritage area.
