The event was co-hosted by the University of Foreign Language Studies under the University of Da Nang and the British Council.

Addressing the forum, Dr. Ta Ngoc Tri, Deputy Director General of the Department of General Education under the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, affirmed that turning English into a second language across the national education system is a major strategic policy.

This initiative is closely tied to Vietnam’s national project on foreign language education and the Politburo’s Resolution No. 91-KL/TW on comprehensive education reform.

Teacher capacity building is a decisive factor in achieving this goal. The forum, therefore, provides a valuable opportunity for policymakers, experts, and educators to exchange ideas and propose practical solutions, contributing to making English truly a second language in Vietnamese schools.

The event featured presentations on key topics, including the role of teacher training in the English-as-a-second-language (ESL) roadmap, international perspectives on professional development for ESL teachers, and proposed solutions to accelerate implementation nationwide.

Participants also discussed global experiences, challenges and opportunities in advancing English language education, with a focus on enhancing teaching methodologies, assessment practices, and cooperation between universities and local education departments.

The initiative underscores Vietnam’s commitment to deeper global integration and competitiveness by equipping future generations with strong English proficiency, positioning the language not only as a tool for learning but also as a bridge to international cooperation.
