(QNO) - On May 17, a delegation from the Quang Nam People's Council (Vietnam) conducted a working visit to Sekong (Laos) and held a meeting with the Sekong People's Council.
The two sides reviewed the progress of their cooperation agreement signed in December 2023 and agreed to continue fostering their special friendship and comprehensive cooperation. The implementation of key activities has been effective after more than a year.
Notably, Quang Nam supported Sekong in building a legal document library for council delegates and provided funding for equipment to the Sekong People’s Council and this district committee. Quang Nam also helped install clean water systems at local schools in Sekong.
Scholarship programmes have been a highlight, with Quang Nam granting scholarships for Sekong officials to study Vietnamese and political theory, reinforcing capacity building under their joint cooperation programme.
Deputy Chairman Tran Xuan Vinh of the Quang Nam People's Council emphasised the deep appreciation for the ongoing support from Sekong’s party and people, affirming the strong historical ties between the provinces.
He expressed confidence that the partnership will continue to grow stronger, more effective, and deeper, enriching the special solidarity and cooperation between them.
The two councils also signed a new cooperation agreement to maintain delegation exchanges, encourage knowledge sharing, and provide opportunities for leaders and delegates from both provinces to learn from each other.
They committed to supporting policies and regulations that facilitate the cooperation’s effective implementation.
As a tangible act of support, the Quang Nam People's Council provided VND 400 million to assist Sekong in publishing a Delegate’s Work Handbook in Laos, thereby enhancing the council's operational efforts.
