DNO - With nearly 10,600 projects and a total registered capital of US$103 billion, the Republic of Korea (RoK) is currently Vietnam’s largest foreign investor. Alongside, the two countries still see great potential to further intensify cooperation in such fields as hi-tech, semiconductors, and clean energy.

According to the statistics, the total bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the RoK reached over US$80 billion in the first eight months of 2026, the highest figure compared to the same period of previous years.

This provides momentum for both countries to pursue the target of surpassing US$100 billion this year and aiming for US$150 billion by 2030.

The RoK is currently Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner. Beyond economic cooperation, the two countries have also enhanced local-level cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

In 2024, the two countries exchanged over 5 million visitors. At present, there are more than 350,000 Vietnamese people living in the RoK, while approximately 200,000 Korean people are living in Vietnam.

Vietnam is actively promoting a shift in its growth model based on science and technology, innovation, and high-quality human resources, with the ambition of achieving double-digit economic growth in 2026.

Vietnam prioritizes attracting investment in high-value-added sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, smart infrastructure, and clean energy.

These are areas in which the RoK possesses strong capabilities and extensive development experience, opening up new revenues for the two countries to expand cooperation, foster investment linkages, and enhance the quality of capital inflows in the years ahead.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Ngo Le Van stated that the two countries are looking toward celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 22, 1992 - 2027). Therefore, the 2026 - 2027 period serves as a pivotal time for both countries to achieve new breakthroughs in their bilateral cooperation.

The RoK is one of Vietnam’s and Da Nang’s key partners in trade, investment and economic cooperation. As of August 2026, Da Nang had Korean-invested 314 projects with total registered capital of nearly US$1.66 billion, making the RoK one of the city’s important partners in trade, investment and economic cooperation. The RoK is also one of Da Nang’s key international tourism markets. In the first eight months of 2026, the city welcomed over 1.4 million Korean visitors.
