DNO - What if you could walk through centuries of Da Nang’s story without leaving the heart of the city? Step inside the Museum of Da Nang and the past begins to unfold, not as distant dates and dusty artifacts, but as unique stories of people and places.

Walking through Da Nang’s layers of history

The museum, one of the most visited attractions in Da Nang, carries a mission to take visitors through the many layers of Da Nang’s identity.

With nearly 3,000 selected documents and artifacts drawn from a collection of around 27,000 items, the museum spans three exhibition floors.

The interior is thoughtfully designed to present photographs, documents and artifacts across nine major themes: an overview of Da Nang; the city’s nature and people; the history of its urban development; the struggle for national independence; wartime legacies; Da Nang’s integration and development; cultural diversity; Da Nang City Hall; and the museum’s collection of antiquities.

In addition to its valuable collections, the museum is also a cultural landmark designed with a strong emphasis on thoughtful interpretation, scientific presentation and visual appeal.

Professionally designed exhibition spaces blend traditional display methods with modern 3D Mapping technology, creating a more immersive way for visitors to experience Da Nang’s history and culture.

Following a logical route arranged in chronological order, visitors can feel as though they are passing through one door of time after another. Here, history is no longer a collection of dry numbers or still images on paper. It takes shape, comes alive and seems to whisper stories from the past.

The museum tells the story of Da Nang through its nature and people, the history of its urban development, the years of struggle for national independence, the city’s journey of integration and development and its rich cultural diversity.

The museum is therefore more than a place to “see” history. It offers visitors a chance to learn how to remember, appreciate and understand a place not only through what exists today, but also through the layers of time that have shaped its identity.

Some of the exhibits are remarkably simple: a faded photograph, an everyday object or a familiar personal belonging. Yet these seemingly silent artifacts can hold visitors’ attention, because behind every object lies a story - and behind every story, a person.

Where architecture meets cultural memory

Back in the museum’s entrance hall, the perforated architectural panels resemble a giant curtain woven from concrete and light.

Patterns and lines cast shifting shadows across the floors and walls, sometimes crisp, sometimes softening as visitors move through the space, like spontaneous brushstrokes drawn by nature.

Amid the streams of light, the flowing lines of “Ao Dai” seem even more graceful, the red of the national flag stands out more vividly, and the conical hat becomes a gentle curve within the larger composition.

Many visitors pause to capture these poetic moments, when human silhouettes blend with the architecture and people seem to find a quiet connection with the cultural memories embedded in the space.
