Positive outcomes

As reported by the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, Da Nang has established official friendship and cooperation ties with 60 localities across 24 countries and territories, with a total of 120 agreements signed.

The city currently maintains active and substantive partnerships with 53 localities and international organizations from 22 countries and territories, with 58 memoranda of understanding still in force.

These cited agreements span key areas including economic cooperation, culture, education, environmental protection, tourism, human resource development and investment promotion.

Great efforts to deepen international economic integration have been stepped up through a wide range of investment, trade and tourism initiatives.

Da Nang has actively welcomed foreign business delegations seeking to explore its investment landscape, while also equipping local enterprises with information on international trade fairs and market access opportunities in key markets such as Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand and Laos.

In close coordination with diplomatic missions, Da Nang has successfully hosted a series of high-profile international events, including the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, alongside bilateral cultural exchanges such as the Vietnam - Japan and Vietnam - Korea festivals.

Meanwhile, nearby Hoi An has been nominated for leading Asian tourism awards in categories such as “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination” and “Vietnam’s Leading Cultural Destination,” underscoring regional efforts to preserve heritage while elevating international visibility.

In parallel, Da Nang has taken a proactive role in organizing and co-hosting a wide range of people-to-people exchange activities, peace initiatives and international events in collaboration with diplomatic agencies, organizations and local stakeholders, thereby strengthening friendship, fostering mutual understanding and expanding cooperation with its global partners.

Targeted and strategic investment attraction

In 2026, Da Nang is recalibrating its investment attraction strategy, moving away from a broad-based approach toward a more focused, high-quality model tailored to its unique strengths.

Central to this shift is the development of breakthrough policy frameworks, alongside efforts to fully leverage special mechanisms linked to the planned free trade zone and the international financial center, creating distinct competitive advantages for the city.

According to official data, from January 1 to March 20, 2026, Da Nang attracted more than VND 58.496 trillion (approximately $2.3 billion) in domestic investment, nearly five times higher than the same period last year. The city also secured $37.47 million in foreign direct investment (FDI).

As of March 20, 2026, Da Nang was home to 2,045 domestic projects with total registered capital exceeding VND 804.775 trillion, alongside 1,102 FDI projects with combined investment of around $10.7 billion, underscoring its growing appeal as a key investment destination.

A key priority will be strengthening on-site investment promotion, with greater emphasis not only on attracting new capital but also on supporting and retaining existing investors. This dual approach reflects a more sustainable and investor-centric development strategy.

The city’s promotion efforts will continue to target traditional partners such as the United States, Japan, South Korea and Singapore, while expanding outreach to European markets.

Priority sectors for 2026 include semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), green growth and logistics.

Da Nang has identified a portfolio of 13 key sectors with more than 200 projects earmarked for investment attraction. These strategic areas are expected to play a pivotal role in transforming the city into a smart urban hub and a leading economic center in the region.
