DNO - The recent adjustment to the national tourism system master plan for 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2045, approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has elevated Da Nang's position from a transit "gateway" to a national tourism growth pole serving as a core driver for the development of tourism in the North Central, South Central Coastal and Central Highlands regions.

Elevating Da Nang as a premier tourism destination
Previously, under Decision No. 509/QD-TTg issued in 2024, Da Nang was identified as a national growth hub in the central region, primarily serving as a gateway attracting visitors via air, sea and road routes, including the East - West Economic Corridor, and a catalyst for tourism development in the North Central, Central Coast and Central Highlands regions.
However, in the latest adjustment, Da Nang is now defined as a national tourism growth pole, playing a pivotal role in driving tourism development across the North Central, South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions.
This shift reflects a significant transformation in the city’s standing. According to experts, while Da Nang previously focused on distributing tourist flows thanks to its infrastructure advantages, it has now developed a full range of distinctive tourism products and established a clear destination identity. As a result, the city is no longer just a transit point but has emerged as a destination with its own unique appeal.

Reinforcing role as a regional tourism hub
The actual development also shows the strong growth momentum of the city's tourism. In the first quarter of 2026, Da Nang served more than 2.34 million international overnight visitors, placing it among the top three localities nationwide alongside Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi, and maintaining a considerable lead over other destinations, particularly in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
One of the key factors reinforcing its role as a regional hub is the increasingly well-developed connectivity network.
Currently, Da Nang is served by 27 air routes, including 20 regular international routes, with an average frequency of around 153 flights per day.
In the coming period, this network is expected to expand further, especially toward Southeast Asian and domestic markets, thereby enhancing regional connectivity and attracting more visitors.
In addition, the revised plan clearly outlines a strategy for regional linkages with neighboring localities. A series of distinctive tourism routes will be developed, connecting Da Nang with Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai and the Central Highlands.
All these routes are positioned as high-quality, distinctive tourism products, with Da Nang serving as the point of departure, further consolidating its role as the region’s tourism nucleus.
With these new directions set out in the master plan, Da Nang is steadily transforming itself into not only an attractive destination but also a central hub that connects, leads and drives tourism development across the Central and Central Highlands regions in the years ahead.
