Fab-Lab project, officially known as a laboratory for advanced semiconductor chip packaging technology development and pilot production, is being developed by VSAP LAB JSC at the Da Nang Software Park No. 2. Construction is nearing completion.

With a total investment of VND 1.8 trillion, Fab-Lab covers a construction area of more than 2,200 square meters and provides over 5,700 square meters of total floor space.

The facility will consist of two main areas: a lab space for research and development of advanced packaging technologies such as Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP), 2.5D/3D IC, silicon interposer, and silicon-bridge; and a fab area for pilot production using real wafers, equipped with cutting-edge systems such as lithography, wafer bonding, and internationally standardized testing and measurement equipment.

Upon completion, the project is designed to reach an annual capacity of 10 million products, serving both domestic and international markets.

VSAP LAB JSC sees the project as part of a broader effort to bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical production.

The goal is to enable research outcomes to progress towards testing, technology transfer and manufacturing, while allowing domestic expertise, equipment and talent to play a greater role in the semiconductor value chain.

The project comes as Da Nang steps up investment in science and technology infrastructure, innovation and digital transformation, alongside the development of policies to support businesses in researching, testing and developing new technologies.

Da Nang has introduced various resolutions and policies to promote science and technology, innovation and strategic technology development, as well as the digital technology industry.

The central Vietnamese city aims to provide investors with ready-to-use infrastructure and targeted support for businesses operating in the semiconductor and high-tech electronics supply chains.

Da Nang wants to demonstrate to investors and global strategic partners that it offers ready infrastructure, an open policy environment and strategic locations in its hi-tech and digital technology parks. Also, the city has established tailored incentive frameworks for strategic investors, experts, scientists and businesses in these sectors.

Da Nang’s strategic orientation underscores that technological infrastructure must be accompanied by a supportive policy environment and the capacity to connect various resources.

In the case of a Fab-Lab, its impact would be significantly amplified if it established ongoing linkages with universities, research institutes, technology firms, investors, and customer networks while simultaneously providing trained talent with access to real-world research and production environments.

At the national level, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, issued by the Politburo in 2024, identifies science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as key priorities for driving modern productive forces and accelerating development.

As a key technology infrastructure project, Fab-Lab represents an opportunity for Da Nang to turn research and knowledge into tangible economic value.

By connecting research with training, technology transfer and commercialization, the facility will help develop a skilled workforce and strengthen the city’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.
