DNO - In the early days of the year 2026, Da Nang has continuously reached cooperation agreements with partners from South Korea and Sweden on promoting investment in hi-tech, semiconductors and related fields.
A series of investment promotional activities signals the city’s shifting in advantages from tourism and services to technology and innovation.
Smart city development
At a working session with a delegation from Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh affirmed that recent business connection programs, human resource training cooperation, and exchange of experience in smart city development have contributed to creating a solid foundation for stable and long-term bilateral cooperation.
He expressed his hope for both sides to focus on training human resources in the semiconductors industry, promoting high-tech investment, building a livable and sustainable city, boosting tourism promotion, and enhancing cultural exchanges.
Sharing the same aspiration for sustained cooperation, at the seminar “Daegu (South Korea) - Da Nang Information Technology (IT) Enterprises” organized by the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Research and Training Center (DSAC), Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Quang Buu stated that enterprise linkages, workforce training cooperation, and experience-sharing in smart city development have played an important role in consolidating the foundation for bilateral collaboration.
Paving way for technology-driven future
From the other side, South Korean partners see in Da Nang the potential of a dynamic city with strong political determination and a clear development orientation. Expanding cooperation into areas such as smart city development, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and AI is expected to bring sustainable economic value in line with global development trends.
In his remarks at the 2026 International Conference on Semiconductors (ICOS) in Da Nang, Professor Hoi-Jun Yoo from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology emphasized that in knowledge-intensive industries such as semiconductors, the decisive factors go beyond capital investment or manufacturing facilities. Instead, they lie in design capability, research capacity, and long-term human resource training. This is an approach well suited to Da Nang’s current conditions.
In addition to maintaining cooperative relationships with Asian countries, Da Nang is also expanding its cooperation efforts to Europe.
During their early-year trip to Switzerland, city leaders worked with numerous organizations, associations, and research institutes to seek partnerships in finance, high technology, human resource training, and research and development.
A common feature of these engagements was a focus on long-term, substantive cooperation, with an emphasis on experience-sharing and knowledge transfer rather than purely formal commitments.
Notably, the International Financial Center, which became operational in early 2026, has become a foundation for capital and institutional support for new economic sectors in Da Nang.
Based on this, the city continues to improve essential conditions such as infrastructure, human resources, regulatory frameworks, policies, and the overall investment environment.
In particular, strengthening cooperation and linkages among research centers, training institutions, and domestic and international enterprises is seen as a key factor in ensuring that international cooperation agreements move beyond policy statements and are gradually translated into concrete outcomes.
