Boosting teaching effectiveness with AI integration

Over recent times, member universities of the UD have organized seminars and training sessions to equip students and faculty with knowledge and skills in applying AI, thereby helping learners stay updated with technological trends and better adapt to the Industry 4.0.

Vu Hoang Quan, a senior student in Hydraulic Engineering at the University of Science and Technology under the UD shared that short-term courses have offered new insights into using AI effectively in education. “AI can support learning and personal development, including improving presentation, critical thinking, and time management skills”, said Quan.

Dr. Trinh Cong Duy, an IT lecturer and frequent AI trainer, emphasized the need for students to understand AI’s fundamentals and apply it critically. “AI enhances not only learning speed but also soft skills like creativity and problem-solving”, he noted. However, he also stressed that mastering AI tools requires the ability to analyze and apply outputs meaningfully.

Faculty members across member universities are also receiving regular training on AI tools for teaching, digital content creation, and research. Topics range from designing AI-enhanced lectures and assessments to using platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and NotebookLM to streamline academic work.

Embracing digital technology and AI

The UD is taking bold steps to integrate AI into its teaching, research, and governance. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Le Hung, Rector of the University of Technology and Education under the UD noted that the rise of AI presents both opportunities and challenges, requiring institutions and faculty to embrace innovation and build the capacity to apply AI effectively in the digital age.

AI integration is helping enhance the skills of lecturers and students alike, while fostering a dynamic, adaptive learning environment. To support this transformation, the university is expanding advanced AI training programmes to improve instructional quality and institutional operations.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, the Vice Rector of the University of Science and Technology under the UD emphasized the need for universities to lead digital innovation by empowering faculty with both the tools and mindset to apply AI in curriculum design and digital content development.

In a similar trend, at the Viet Nam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, AI is a strategic focus. Since 2021, its AI Engineering programme has attracted around 1,000 students annually. With a strong emphasis on global relevance, the university aligns its curriculum with international standards and workforce demands, equipping students for success in a globalized job market.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, the University’s Rector proposed expanding international collaboration through joint degree programs and postgraduate research initiatives in AI, big data and cybersecurity. These efforts aim to standardize academic outcomes, elevate global recognition, and establish joint research centers dedicated to AI applications in areas such as agriculture, healthcare and smart city building.
