DNO - Amidst the growing trend of experiential tourism, a group of students in Da Nang has come up with an idea that combines a travel passport, photo booth stations, and digital platform to help visitors preserve memorable moments during their journeys in the coastal city.

Capturing every step of journey

DanangBooth is a smart experiential tourism ecosystem operating under an Online-to-Offline (O2O) model. The project creates a strong connection between unique physical souvenirs and a digital journey platform through a “one-touch” identification solution.

The project was developed by research-enthusiastic students from the Faculty of Information Technology at the Da Nang University of Science and Technology.

The core product of the project is a combination of a photobooth network and a travel passport, supported by interconnected services: smart identification solutions, on-site interaction stations, digital maps, and digital diaries.

Doan Hoang Thien Phu, Head of the DanangBooth team.

The project's idea originated from the team’s hands-on experience operating a photobooth service along the Bach Dang Walking Street.

Through direct interaction with both domestic and international visitors, the students realized there was strong demand for tangible keepsakes that could preserve travel memories.

Recognizing that the “passport-style” model had been successfully applied in on a smaller scale, such as food passports or DUT JobFair passport, the team conceived the idea of expanding the concept into a “local tourism experience passport”.

The team members integrated a comprehensive digital solution. This combination improves convenience, aligns with technology-driven consumer behavior, and creates a smart journey navigation funnel, bringing interconnected economic value to local tourism businesses.

Building an experiential ecosystem for tourists

The standout feature of the project lies in the “Experience Passport” designed specifically for travelers.

At each tourist attraction, users can take photos at photobooth stations, print them instantly, attach them directly to their passport, and collect commemorative stamps as proof of their journey.

Instead of just keeping images on their phones or social media platforms, tourists receive a personalized keepsake that preserves tangible memories of their travels.

DanangBooth offers particular convenient for travelers, especially young people, enabling them to capture beautiful images and moments while also reviewing suggestions for their next destinations on their itinerary.

Alongside the physical passport, the system integrates a digital platform that automatically updates travel logs, unlocks exploration maps, and recommends nearby attractions, based on each visitor’s preferences and travel route.

The check-in and reward-point system also allows visitors to redeem discount vouchers from a network of local partners, contributing to a seamless and integrated tourism experience.

At the end of each trip, the system generates a visual “Travel Card” with unique data, making it easier for visitors to share and spread their exploration stories on social media.

In June, the team plans to complete the software development phase and conduct pilot testing along the Han River waterfront.

It will then expand coverage to Da Nang’s iconic landmarks, including Dragon Bridge, Bridge of Love, Son Tra Night Market, My Khe Beach, Linh Ung Pagoda, Marble Mountains, and Hai Van Gate, while standardizing the platform for expansion to neighboring provinces and cities.

The project “DanangBooth - A Model Connecting Tourism Passports, Photobooths and a Digital Travel-Sharing Platform” has recently outperformed 35 competing teams from universities across Da Nang to win the first prize at the “Student Startup Competition - BK SHARK 2026”.
