DNO - After the recent administrative merger, Da Nang now has abundant marine resources with vast potential, offering great opportunities for sustainable development.
After the merger with Quang Nam Province, Da Nang owns a network of high-class seaside resorts, modern entertainment complexes, and shopping areas such as Furama, Sandy Beach, and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An.
Along with the well-developed infrastructure, the city’s coastal tourism has been increasingly diverse in forms and services, bringing satisfaction to tourists.
Many tours have been developed to explore the daily life, culture, beliefs, customs and practices of coastal residents, gradually expanding to the southern waters of the city.
Aside from the spearhead of marine tourism, seafood exploitation and processing have also received strong attention in recent years. Large-capacity fleets have been invested to go offshore to fish in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds, contributing both to economic growth from the sea and to safeguarding national sovereignty over its sea and islands.
Key fisheries such as purse seine, dragnet, offshore squid fishing or seafood processing for export have also made significant contributions to the local economy.
To promote sustainable development of the marine economy, the city is now concentrating on developing logistics hubs and multimodal transport, and positioning itself as a regional goods distribution center for Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, and the nation as a whole.
Plans include the establishment of free trade zones and industrial parks linked to Lien Chieu Port, as well as to the seaports of Tien Sa, Ky Ha, Tam Hiep, and Tam Hoa, alongside the city’s airport system.
At the same time, the Chu Lai Port is being developed in association with a container logistics hub, while a logistics center at the Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone will serve as a vital link for cargo flows from Central and Southern Laos and Northeastern Thailand.
From 2030 onwards, Da Nang plans to convert Tien Sa Port into a dedicated tourism port and marina. Meanwhile, importance will be attached to linking coastal and Han River areas to establish a chain of high-end, internationally recognized destinations.
The city also intends to develop tourism on the Son Cha Island in tandem with environmental and ecological protection.
