DNO - Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi held a reception on Sunday for President of the Government of Catalonia (Spain) Salvador Illa I Roca during his official visit to the city.
Expressing her pleasure in welcoming Mr. Salvador Illa I Roca and the Catalonia delegation, Vice Chairwoman Thi noted that the visit came shortly after a Da Nang leadership delegation’s working trip to Catalonia in June.
She described the back-to-back visits as a strong demonstration of both sides’ goodwill and determination to deepen bilateral cooperation in a substantive and effective manner.
Mrs. Thi also briefed the delegation on Da Nang’s recent socio-economic performance.
During the first six months of 2026, the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) was estimated to have grown by 9.52%, ranking 13th among 34 provinces and cities nationwide.
Total import-export turnover reached US$2.24 billion, and newly registered foreign direct investment (FDI) totaled US$313 million, 2.6 times higher than the same period last year.
Tourism remained a bright spot with more than 9.8 million visitors to Da Nang between January and June, up 22.5% year-on-year.
The city is currently prioritizing strategic sectors such as seaports and logistics, high technology, information technology, and the digital economy.
Also, it is focusing on seeking investment in cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), gene technology, and stem cell research.
With these development foundations and strategic orientations, Da Nang believes that it can further expand cooperation with international partners, including Catalonia, by leveraging complementary strengths to support each other and develop practical, mutually beneficial projects.
Vice Chairwoman Thi requested Catalonia to continue to accompany and promote cooperation with Da Nang in several priority areas.
She called for greater cooperation in urban planning, public transportation, urban railway development, sustainable tourism management, and heritage preservation, as well as exchanges of expertise in developing and operating an International Financial Center and a Free Trade Zone.
The vice chairwoman also encouraged stronger connections between business communities, industry associations, and investment promotion agencies.
The purpose is to create favorable conditions for Catalan enterprises to explore investment opportunities in Da Nang, particularly in high technology, logistics, innovation, digital transformation, and tourism.
In addition, she proposed expanding cooperation in education and training while strengthening cultural, tourism, and sports exchanges.
In reply, President Salvador Illa i Roca thanked the city leaders for their warm reception and praised Da Nang’s investment environment, particularly its vision of developing advanced technology industries.
He also introduced Catalonia as one of Spain’s leading economic engines and a major center for innovation, science and technology, culture, and tourism.
He voiced his hope that Catalonia and Da Nang would strengthen cooperation in areas where both sides share common strengths and interests.
