Da Nang’s great opportunities for film industry development

A diverse ecosystem of filming locations

Central Vietnam in general, and Da Nang in particular, possess many special advantages to become an important growth destination for Vietnam’s film industry.

One of Da Nang’s biggest advantages is its diversity of locations such as a modern urban landscape with distinctive architecture; beaches, islands, peninsulas, and coastal ecosystems; primary forests, mountains, and highlands bordering Laos; tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites; traditional craft villages; agricultural and fishing communities; and river-based scenery.

These elements meet the needs for action, adventure, historical and period films, as well as arthouse productions, musical films, and tourism-related content. This diversity is also a decisive factor attracting international film crews to choose Da Nang as a filming destination.

In addition, the merger of Quang Nam Province and Da Nang has expanded the region’s demographic scale and significantly broadened its natural and cultural landscape.

However, compared to Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi, Da Nang still lacks high-quality human resources and the number of artists in film crew positions such as screenwriters, directors, cameramen, technicians, and designers.

Also, the city has yet to have film training schools and a network of businesses providing pre-production and post-production services, equipment rental, visual effects, costumes, casting, or set construction. As a result, film crews must hire technical services from Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh City, which raises costs and reduces competitiveness.

Meanwhile, Da Nang does not have a large-scale and high-quality studio, whilst its cinema system remains concentrated mainly in the downtown area.

Building a film industry center worthy of its potential

To meet the requirements of growing film industry, Da Nang has approved the construction of a modern Culture - Cinema Center with a total investment of nearly VND 520 billion.

Aside from attracting international film crews to Vietnam to cooperate and enhance the quality of film production, the city aims to prioritize investment in the production of animated films using 2D and 3D technologies, and stop-motion techniques.

It also plans to develop a Vietnamese animated IP character bank to strengthen brand value for local creative products.

A positive sign for Da Nang came at the end of October 2025 when the digital entertainment platform company Enterise officially opened its office in the city.

Enterise builds a closed ecosystem that includes Enterise Studio focusing on producing and investing in feature films, series, and Vietnamese art projects, and Enterise Digital - a platform where audiences can not only watch films but also invest in, own, and accompany digital cinematic products.

In recent years, the annual Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) has gradually affirmed its brand in the region.

DANAFF creates opportunities for building a network of cinematic collaboration among coastal cities such as Da Nang, Busan, Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Cannes, while also attracting international producers, directors, and artists.

With strong investment in dedicated film infrastructure and substantial incentive mechanisms, Da Nang is expected to emerge as Central Vietnam’s film hub in the 2025 - 2030 period, contributing to realizing its vision as “Da Nang - Asia’s Creative and Cinematic City”.
