DNO - Da Nang residents and tourists fill Le Do Cinema each night to enjoy free screenings of acclaimed Vietnamese films, despite cold, rainy weather.
As part of free weeklong film programme celebrating the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, screenings begin at 7 p.m. daily from November 15 - 19 at the Le Do Cinema, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang featuring a curated lineup of notable Vietnamese films.
The programme opened on November 15 with “Childhood Moonlight”, followed by “Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass” on November 16, “The Legend of Quan Tien” on November 17, and “17th Parallel: Nights and Days” on November 18.
The closing night on November 19 showcased “Red Rain”, a major historical, revolutionary war-themed film achieving the highest box-office revenue in the history of Vietnamese cinema, adding to the appeal of the event.
According to organizers, nearly all seats were filled well before each screening. The unexpectedly high turnout forced the cinema to add extra chairs to accommodate the audience.
Local residents expressed their enthusiasm for the free film week. Le Thi Nhu Diep, a resident of Hoa Khanh Ward, said she immediately planned movie outings with friends after learning about the event.
“These films are excellent. Some I’ve seen before, but I still wanted to watch them again,” Diep said.

Another attendee, Le Thi Lan from the same ward, said she was delighted to see Da Nang hosting a free public film program featuring meaningful and high-quality productions.
“Movies like “Red Rain” and “17th Parallel: Nights and Days” offer powerful historical insights. I hope the city and the country will organize more events like this so people can enjoy great Vietnamese films,” she said.
The film week was organized by the Cinema Department in cooperation with the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the city’s Culture and Cinema Centre.
All screenings are offered free of charge to help residents and visitors experience some of Vietnam’s most notable cinematic works.
