Da Nang leaves lasting impression with success of Asia’s biggest pickleball event

DNO - The recently-concluded PPA Tour Asia - MB Vietnam Cup 2025 in Da Nang, the biggest of its kind in Asia, has left strong impressions on both athletes and spectators.

Held at Tien Son Sports Arena, the international Pickleball tournament attracted leading players from Vietnam and around the world, including world No.1 Ben Johns. The event combined world-class competition with the charm of a coastal city known for its hospitality and dynamic energy.

Spectator Tran Cong Den from the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City said his family had an unforgettable week in Da Nang. “The organization was very professional, the courts were beautiful, and the crowd was always full of energy. The athletes played with great passion, creating many spectacular moments,” he said.

The event extended beyond the courts, offering interactive side activities including athlete meet-and-greet sessions and the Vietnam Sports Festival exhibition.

On the courts, Vietnamese player Phuc Huynh triumphed in men’s singles, while the duo Jonathan and Alix Truong claimed the mixed doubles title. International stars Tyson McGuffin, Eric Oncins, Chao Yi Wang, and Kaitlyn Christian also shone in their categories.

Ben Johns expressed excitement about his first appearance in Vietnam, praising the event’s organization and the enthusiasm of local fans. “Asian players are improving rapidly and tournaments like this will help raise the region’s profile in world Pickleball,” he noted.

The Guinness World Records organization recognized the event as the Pickleball tournament with the world’s largest live audience.

According to the organisers, a record 7,906 spectators attended the matches on October 4 at Tien Son Sports Arena, surpassing the previous mark of 5,522 set at the Margaritaville USA National Championships 2022 in California, the United States.

The milestone represents a proud moment not only for Vietnam’s sports community but also a clear sign of Pickleball’s growing popularity in the country.

The achievement once again highlighted Da Nang’s image as a dynamic and welcoming city in the eyes of both domestic and international visitors.

With the world record now in place, the city’s appeal is expected to grow even further, paving the way for Da Nang to attract and host more major festivals and international sporting events in the future.
