Da Nang, Japan’s Sakai reinforce cooperation and people-to-people exchanges

DNO - Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang Nguyen Thi Thu Lan hosted a meeting on Wednesday with Mayor of Sakai (Japan) NAGAFUJI Hideki during his working visit to the central city.

At the reception, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Lan expressed her delight at the meeting, noting that it took place as the two localities have upgraded into their friendship city relationship in 2019 and have been implementing the Carbon Neutral City Project for the 2025 - 2028 period.

She also briefed her guest on the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang and the city's future development strategy.

She highlighted that Da Nang has been allowed by the central government to pilot many special mechanisms and policies.

In particular, the city aims to become one of major socio-economic centers in Vietnam and Southeast Asia by 2030.

It also eyes evolving into a large, green and smart urban area, and a regional hub for start-ups, innovation and a highly liveable coastal city in Asia by 2045.

For his part, Mayor NAGAFUJI Hideki said he was delighted to return to Da Nang after 10 years and witness the city's remarkable transformation.

He noted that Sakai and Da Nang shared many similarities and long-standing ties. He voiced his hope that exchanges and cooperation between the two cities would continue to expand and reach new heights in the time ahead.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed areas of mutual interest, including the implementation of the Carbon Neutral City Project, as well as cooperation in cultural, artistic and sports exchanges and people-to-people diplomacy.

On the occasion, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thu Lan proposed that the Sakai mayor facilitate meetings between a delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city and the Sakai Council, along with agencies responsible for social policy.

She also asked a helping hand from Mr. NAGAFUJI Hideki to support for study visits to community self-governance models, green city initiatives and clean energy projects in residential areas, as well as introductions to Sakai's independent ombudsman system to help Da Nang strengthen its social supervision and policy consultation mechanisms.
