Da Nang’s natural area spans nearly 12,000km². It is situated within the ecological core of the Central Truong Son region, a convergence of the flora from both the northern and the southern sides of Vietnam.

The city is home to several nature reserves of significant national and international biodiversity values.

These include Song Thanh National Park, a part of Bach Ma National Park; Saola Species and Habitat Conservation Area; Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area; Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve; the My Son Cultural and Historical Site Landscape Protection Area; Ba Na - Nui Chua Nature Reserve; Son Tra Species and Habitat Conservation Area; Nam Hai Van Landscape Protection Area; and Cu Lao Cham (Cham Islands) World Biosphere Reserve.

Reportedly, the city’s forest ecosystem boasts high-valued biodiversity, harboring numerous endangered and rare wildlife species, such as elephants, Saola, the Ngoc Linh laughingthrush, colugos (flying lemurs), and Truong Son muntjacs and langurs, alongside a diverse range of plants and medicinal herbs with significant economic and scientific values.

In particular, Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve, Tan Hiep Commune, is a well-known destination for international visitors who are eager to explore its pristine natural beauty and the rich biodiversity of its forests and marine ecosystems.

The reserve's biodiversity and environmental quality are well-protected, with the growth of hundreds of hectares of natural coral reefs. Cu Lao Cham, with over 90% of its land covered by primeval forest, also boasts a rich system of flora and fauna, including the long-tailed macaque and the swiftlet, both of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book.

The Prime Minister of Vietnam recently approved Da Nang Master Plan to 2050, with vision to 2075. The plan opens up new development space, aiming to transform Da Nang into a modern, smart, globally connected ecological coastal city and one of Asia's leading urban centers with a distinctive cultural identity.
