Da Nang: A promised land for wildlife tourism

Translated by MAI DUNG 07/04/2026 09:51

DNO - Amid the growing trend of sustainable tourism, Da Nang is emerging as a promising hub for wildlife tourism, thanks to its rich ecosystems and a renewed approach to harnessing natural resources. At the forefront are HiVOOC and Next Continent that are shaping a new wildlife tourism model, where travel activities are developed in tandem with biodiversity conservation goals.

Diverse natural assets

In Da Nang, HiVOOC is regarded as a pioneering model that integrates wildlife tourism with biodiversity conservation.

Before officially launching in 2023, conservationist Bui Van Tuan and his team spent more than three years traveling across national parks, conducting habitat surveys, and working with local communities to lay the groundwork for HiVOOC’s establishment.

According to Mr. Bui Van Tuan, Director of HiVOOC Co., Ltd., Da Nang is the only locality in Vietnam where two rare and high-conservation-value douc langur species coexist: the red-shanked douc langur and the grey-shanked douc langur. He described this as “a rare natural asset bestowed upon Da Nang”.

On the Son Tra Peninsula, more than 1,300 red-shanked douc langurs are currently living in stable conditions. Meanwhile, the grey-shanked douc population in Tam My Tay (Nui Thanh) has recovered from 60 to 75 individuals as of 2024.

As part of the Truong Son Range, alongside Son Tra Peninsula and Cu Lao Cham, Da Nang benefits from a rich and diverse ecosystem network. These natural advantages provide a strong foundation for developing a range of wildlife ecotourism products from primate watching and birdwatching to night forest experiences, as well as environmental education and biological research programs.

Tourism aligned with conservation

HiVOOC currently focuses on developing products aimed at raising public awareness through knowledge-sharing and storytelling about conservation at each destination.

Its tours are designed with clear mechanisms to contribute to nature and local communities. In addition to offering free nature-based educational programs for students and families, HiVOOC collaborates with experts from the city-based Duy Tan University, the University of Science and Education - The University of Da Nang, and ecological research institutes to organize its tours.

All funding is drawn from business profits as a way of “giving back to nature” and fostering conservation awareness among younger generations.

Meanwhile, despite entering the market only in early 2024, Next Continent has quickly established itself as a leading provider of professional wildlife tourism services in Central Vietnam.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Trinh, Founder and CEO of Next Continent Co., Ltd., “Da Nang is an ideal starting point for wildlife tourism. Its national parks, nature reserves, lagoons, and wetlands are easily accessible and located near major resort hubs, allowing visitors to seamlessly combine leisure and nature exploration”.

With nearly 100 eco-verified tours and itineraries, Next Continent offers authentic experiences of Vietnam’s biodiversity. In addition, the company reinvests its revenue into habitat restoration programs and community livelihood funds. It also partners with international conservation organizations such as Saola Foundation and The Civet Project.

All these efforts contribute to wildlife protection and help maintain ecological balance in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.
