Accordingly, the Ministry of Construction serves as the investment decision-making authority while the Thang Long Project Management Board is designated as the project owner. The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation has been asked to prepare investment procedures.

The project aims to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Code E aircraft lines, such as the Boeing 747s, Boeing 787s, and Airbus 350s.

Once being operational, the project will contribute to meeting the growing demand for aviation transport, foster socio-economic growth, and ensure national defense and security for Da Nang City in particular and the Central Coast region as a whole.

It is a Group B project involving the construction and upgrade of runway 17R/35L and the taxiway system at Da Nang International Airport, meeting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for a 4E-class airport.
