DNO - The 150-year-old cinnamon tree at Ong Ni area in Village No. 2, Tra Van Commune, Da Nang, has been recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

The Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has just issued a decision and awarded a certificate of recognition as a Vietnam Heritage Tree for the cinnamon tree at Ong Ni area.
The cinnamon tree is over 150 years old, with a trunk circumference of 3.5m and a height of 30m. Due to its age, local people often call it the "old cinnamon tree" and do not peel off its bark for sale but only take the seeds to grow seedlings.
Currently, the local government is planning to fence off the area to protect the tree, mobilize social resources to install a heritage plaque to raise public awareness about conservation, and develop the site into a community tourism and sightseeing spot.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh, Chairman of the Tra Van Commune People’s Committee, Ong Ni area is also home to an ancient tea tree, estimated by scientists to be around 330 years old.
The Tra Van Commune People's Committee is preparing documents to submit to the municipal authorities and the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment for consideration to recognize this tea tree as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree as well.
