DNO - Vietnam is set to reach a historic milestone in its tourism development, welcoming its 20 millionth international visitor for the first time in the sector’s 65-year history.
A once-in-65-years milestone
The landmark moment will be officially marked at the Phu Quoc International Airport on December 15, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
As announced by VNAT, a ceremony will be held to greet the 20 millionth visitor, along with two additional travellers identified as the 19,999,999th and 20,000,001st arrivals.
All three guests will receive certificates and commemorative gifts, symbolizing Vietnam’s achievement in international tourism recovery and growth.
Authorities are currently coordinating with relevant agencies to confirm the identity and arrival details of the milestone visitor.
The target is well within reach, citing strong momentum in the fourth quarter and continued recovery in global travel demand.
Vietnam has already welcomed more than 19 million international visitors in the first 11 months of the year, up 20.4 percent from the same period last year, according to data referenced by the General Statistics Office.
Targeting 35 million international visitors by 2030
Reaching 20 million international arrivals represents a new development threshold for Vietnam’s tourism industry, highlighting its robust post-pandemic recovery and growing competitiveness on the global tourism map.
The achievement is widely attributed to sustained policy direction from the government and the prime minister, particularly in improving visa regulations, expanding source markets, strengthening international promotion, and upgrading tourism products and services.
Beyond its immediate significance, the 20 million visitor benchmark is expected to provide momentum toward Vietnam’s long-term tourism strategy, including the ambitious goal of attracting 35 million international visitors by 2030.
