DNO - Vietnam has been named among the world’s top five best countries for women travelling solo in 2026 thanks to its safety, welcoming atmosphere, and rich cultural experiences.
Vietnam ranked third on the list of "Top 5 Best Countries for Women Traveling Solo in 2026" recently released by BBC.
The list was based on data from the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Index and the Global Peace Index between 2023 and 2025 and traveler surveys this year.
Insights from solo female travelers were also used to measure each destination's safety and accessibility.
According to travel experts, the trend of women traveling solo has grown significantly in recent years.
Many travel companies report that global searches related to “solo female travel” have risen by 30% over the past five years.
In Vietnam, solo female travelers highlight the country's safety and the warmth of everyday encounters.
Everyday experiences, such as chatting with café owners, enjoying street food, or taking long-distance bus journeys, help create a sense of connection and ease. Many say they felt at home exploring the country on their own terms.
Beyond familiar destinations like Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hoi An, female travelers are increasingly venturing to northern mountainous regions for trekking and cultural immersion with ethnic minority communities, or to the Mekong Delta to experience river-based lifestyles. These journeys are seen as both safe and deeply engaging.
Costa Rica topped this year’s list, rising from 60th to 34th on the WPS Index and ranking among the world’s happiest countries.
Estonia, Uruguay, and Norway, the other three countries in the top 5, were all highly rated for safety, gender equality, and travel experience.
In April 2024, Vietnam was the only Southeast Asian representative included on Time Out's list of the nine safest destinations for solo female travelers.
In the same year, Best Diplomat ranked Vietnam the eighth safest destination in Asia.
Furthermore, Travel Off Path named Vietnam as the safest destination in Asia in 2024.
Gallup's Global Law and Order Index ranked Vietnam among Asia's most peaceful countries and seventh in the world in 2023.
