Vietnam, Laos effectively implement bilateral cooperation agreements

DNO - The mid-term meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Committee in 2026 was held in Da Nang on Thursday.

According to a report presented at the meeting, the implementation of the Cooperation Plan in 2026 between Vietnam and Laos has broadly met its targets.

This significantly contributed to maintaining political stability, socio-economic development, national defense and security, as well as further consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

Moreover, political and diplomatic relations have continued to strengthen, while joint statements and high-level agreements between the two countries have been actively implemented.

Both sides have maintained information exchange, consultation, and close coordination at regional and international forums.

The two sides have implemented signed protocols and cooperation agreements, contributing to building a peaceful, stable, friendly, cooperative and developing Vietnam - Laos border.

Notably, economic and investment cooperation has recorded positive developments.

In the first seven months of 2026, Vietnamese businesses carried out 20 projects in Laos totaling US$638.3 million, 4.2 times higher than the figure recorded during the same period in 2025.

Laos remains Vietnam’s largest overseas investment destination, with 300 projects worth US$7.04 billion in total.

For the remainder of the year, the two sides will continue implementing high-level agreements and the 2026 Cooperation Plan between the two governments.

Additionally, they will further strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation, deepen Vietnam-Laos political relations, and maintain their role in providing overall strategic direction for bilateral ties.

Attention will also be paid to effectively implementing joint statements and high-level agreements between the two countries.

The two sides will also reinforce defense and security cooperation, economic connectivity, and human resource training and development.

At the same time, both sides will improve the effectiveness of Vietnam’s aid funding for Laos, and explore ways to combine aid funds with other lawful sources of capital to implement major, strategic projects.

In their concluding remarks, the Chairpersons of the Vietnam - Laos and Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committees agreed to continue working closely together and implementing agreed tasks.

They also expressed confidence that effective implementation of cooperation agreements will help consolidate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

It will also provide a foundation for the two countries to successfully organize cooperation activities in the coming period, particularly in 2027 - the year marking the 65th anniversary of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
