A vibrant space for cultural exchange

Following the success of previous editions, the Vietnam - Japan Festival in Da Nang 2026, held in July, featured a series of rich and attractive activities with the participation of numerous localities, businesses, organizations, and people from both countries.

More than a cultural celebration, the festival served as an important diplomatic platform, helping strengthen people-to-people exchanges, expand cooperation across multiple sectors, and promote Da Nang as a dynamic, friendly and internationally integrated city.

The highlight of the festival was the Vietnam - Japan space with nearly 100 booths showcasing the culture, cuisine, tourism, characteristic products, and services of both countries.

Also, there were an exhibition featuring cooperation achievements between Da Nang and its Japanese partners, as well as a children's art exhibition from localities with friendship ties to the city.

The festival’s performance stage attracted large crowds with appearances by renowned Vietnamese and Japanese artists.

During the event, many cultural experiences attracted young people, including Bon Odori and Vietnamese bamboo dance exchanges, Random Dance V-Jpop, and the final round of the cosplay competition.

This year’s program also expanded its sports exchange activities, featuring Vietnam - Japan friendly football matches involving Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale Club, SHB Da Nang FC, and students from local universities and colleges.

A testament to comprehensive cooperation

Beyond being an annual cultural event, the Vietnam - Japan Festival in Da Nang reflects the tangible achievements of comprehensive cooperation between the city and its Japanese partners.

The most visible achievements can be seen in the investment and trade aspect. Japan is currently among the top three foreign direct investment (FDI) sources in Da Nang, with 301 active projects worth more than US$1.22 billion.

During the 2021 - 2025 period, the city attracted 65 new Japanese FDI projects with total registered capital exceeding US$188 million. Bilateral trade reached more than US$1.5 billion in 2025, including US$1.07 billion in exports from Da Nang to Japan.

In addition, Official Development Assistance (ODA) and technical cooperation from the Japanese government have continued to play an important role in supporting the city's urban development and infrastructure improvement.

Moreover, cooperation in people-to-people exchange, education, and human resource development have achieved many outstanding results.

In 2025, Da Nang welcomed around 264,000 Japanese visitors. The city is now home to six senior high schools offering Japanese-language education and 31 Japanese language centers.

The University of Da Nang and other local universities in the city have established partnerships with more than 80 Japanese universities, businesses and associations. This has paved the way for 6,069 workers from Da Nang to work in Japan during between 2021 and 2025.

Looking ahead, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to mobilizing both the public and private sectors to support Da Nang in its development as a smart city, with the long-term goal of becoming a global city driven by science and technology.

Building on a strong foundation of mutual trust and a shared strategic vision, the partnership between Da Nang and its Japanese partners is well positioned to deliver even greater tangible, sustainable and mutually beneficial outcomes in the years ahead.
