DNO - Booking.com, a leading global online travel platform, has just highlighted Tra Que Vegetable Village, Da Nang, as a destination in Vietnam where tourism activities help generate livelihoods, support the local community, and preserve local cultural values.

Once a long-established vegetable-growing village, in the 16th century, Tra Que is emerging as a typical model of community-based tourism development.

Its vegetable gardens, farming techniques, and the rhythms of daily life create a distinctive tourism product that helps support local livelihoods while preserving Da Nang’s unique agricultural cultural landscape.

Tra Que Vegetable Village, an 18-hectare farming community, is home to more than 300 farmers from around 200 households who plant about 20 types of organic vegetables and herbs.

Visitors coming to the village can farm alongside farmers, learn traditional cultivation techniques and experience everyday life in the fields.

The experience gives farmers an additional source of income. It also allows them to share knowledge passed down through generations with visitors.

Beyond its scenery, what makes Tra Que Vegetable Village so appealing lies in the farming knowledge, production practices, and rural lifestyle that have been preserved across generations.

According to Booking.com’s suggestion, tourism activities in Tra Que are developed based on the community’s existing way of life.

Knowledge of soil, crop seasons, and farming techniques becomes part of the experiential product, helping visitors better understand the local agricultural culture while generating additional income for local residents.

In April 2022, Tra Que's vegetable farming was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage under the category of folk knowledge and traditional crafts.

Tra Que became the only representative of Vietnam to be recognized by the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) as the "Best Tourist Village" of the year 2024.
