Booking.com recommends Tra Que Vegetable Village as community-based tourism destination

According to Booking.com’s latest Sustainable Travel Report, 78% of Vietnamese travelers want the money they spend while traveling to benefit local communities.

At the same time, 85% of travelers seek authentic experiences that reflect the cultural identity of their destinations.

In response to this trend, the platform has recommended several standout destinations, including the Tra Que Vegetable Village in Da Nang.

Dating back to the 16^th century, the Tra Que Vegetable Village has retained its image as a thriving agricultural community.

Currently, over 300 farmers from 200 households cultivate around 20 varieties of organic vegetables and herbs on the village’s area of 18 hectares.

What makes the Tra Que Vegetable Village distinctive is that tourism activities have been developed around the community’s existing way of life rather than changing or replacing it.

Indigenous knowledge of soil conditions, growing seasons and farming techniques has provided residents with an additional source of income.

This approach not only helps preserve the economic value of traditional farming but also empowers locals to actively share and promote their village's heritage.

Booking.com recommends that visitors explore the vegetable village in the early morning or late afternoon to fully experience the lively rhythm of local farming life.

Alongside Tra Que, Booking.com’s list also highlights the Lung Tam Village in Tuyen Quang Province where preserves the traditional hemp- weaving craft of the Hmong people; the Sa Dec Flower Village in Dong Thap Province; the Thai Hai Ecological Village in Thai Nguyen Province, a heritage destination recognized by UN Tourism; and the Lo Lo Chai Village in Lung Cu Commune, Tuyen Quang Province.

These examples show that tourism development based on heritage and community life is gaining strong appeal, as well as contributing to preserving long-standing cultural values and creating sustainable livelihoods for local residents.
