Creative and practical models

The movement to recycle waste into teaching tools and toys has been gaining momentum.

At Binh Minh Kindergarten (Hai Chau Ward), old paint buckets are turned into flower pots, play tools, and learning aids, creating a lively, eco-friendly space.

Teachers creatively reuse cans, milk cartons, cardboard, and plastic bottles as classroom materials and model everyday objects like helmets and tyres for interactive lessons. These efforts reduce costs, foster creativity, and raise environmental awareness among both teachers and students.

At the primary level, waste-sorting and charity initiatives have also taken root.

At Hoa Lu Primary School (Thanh Khe Ward), the “waste-sorting house” model encourages students to collect recyclables, which are sold to raise funds which support underprivileged students. This initiative also promotes clean campuses and a spirit of compassion among pupils.

Raising environmental awareness in schools

Since 2022, the Da Nang Youth Union has implemented a recycling and waste-sorting programme that raises funds to help students in need, now reaching more than 40 schools across the city.

The initiative encourages students to collect recyclables to fund scholarships and promotes environmental awareness and empathy among children.

In 2024, Da Nang launched a project to reduce single-use plastics in schools, supported by the Pacific Environment and Resources Centre, at four schools in Son Tra District.

The initiative held 229 lessons and 12 extracurricular sessions, and introduced 63 plastic-reduction measures, helping raise teachers’ and students’ awareness of reducing single-use plastics.

The Department of Education and Training continues to promote the city’s vision of “Building Da Nang- An environmental city” through training, workshops, and school campaigns on waste sorting and plastic reduction, building a greener, cleaner, and more eco-conscious learning environment across the city.
