DNO - Beyond providing maps and sightseeing directions, the “Xuyen Mach Nghe” digital platform offers visitors a new way to experience Hoi An.
Through itineraries designed on a digital map, stories regarding the heritage, culture, and history of the ancient town are conveyed in a vivid, intuitive, and accessible manner.

After purchasing entrance tickets to the Hoi An Ancient Town, visitors can scan a QR code at ticket counters or visit the web platform directly at https://hoiancreativecity.com/xuyenmachnghe to access the “Xuyen Mach Nghe” platform.
The platform features an intuitive interface and supports eight languages: Vietnamese, English, German, French, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese.
Visitors can choose an itinerary that suits their interests, receive directions, learn about destinations, check in, answer questions and earn points as they explore the town.
More than 20 heritage sites in the ancient town have been linked into five themed experience routes, each focusing on different aspects of Hoi An’s history, culture and people.
The five routes are “Across Seas and Mountains” (a journey tracing the stories of people who traveled across the sea to Hoi An); “A Heart of Loyalty” (the lives, careers and thoughts of Hoi An intellectuals); “Lost in Harmony” (a walking journey discovering the diversity of Hoi An’s culture); “Hoi An’s Golden Days” (exploring the glorious past of the trading port); and “Hoi An: Then and Now” (a journey through the history of the ancient town).
The routes take visitors to iconic landmarks such as the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Fujian and Hainan Assembly Halls, Quan Cong Temple, Cam Pho Communal House, Hoi An Communal House, and the Tan Ky, Duc An, Quan Thang and Phung Hung ancient houses, as well as museums and cultural spaces.
Notably, the platform also provides information on the distance and walking time between destinations. This allows visitors to build their own itineraries rather than focusing solely on a few familiar landmarks.
The project was widely introduced at the Hoi An Creative Week 2026, with development support from Vietnam Map Archive.
By turning the ancient town into a “game map”, the project aims to combine sightseeing with exploration, interaction and heritage discovery.

According to the development team, the Vietnam Map Archive researched historical documents, and conducted field surveys at various attractions to develop the experience routes.
Particular attention was paid to parallel sentences and steles, which provide important sources for decoding historical stories and messages left by previous generations.
Drawing on this wealth of material, stories about merchants and sea voyages, cultural exchanges, the activities of Hoi An as a trading port, and the town’s place in history have been distilled into concise content on the digital platform.
Rather than simply providing information through conventional narration, “Xuyen Mach Nghe” uses multiple-choice questions and interactive challenges to encourage visitors to actively observe, learn about and discover heritage sites along their journey.
Hoi An’s digital infrastructure
In Hoi An, a digital map of the town’s art and creative spaces has also been launched as a digital infrastructure component of Hoi An Creative City.
The project is supported by the UNESCO Office in Viet Nam and SOVICO Group.
The project not only helps visitors discover destinations but also establishes a shared database and tools for connecting and promoting the creative ecosystem.
In particular, it helps link artists, artisans and creative spaces with local communities and visitors.
The platform thus serves as a bridge between Hoi An’s physical spaces and its emerging digital creative ecosystem.
