DNO - A street fruit vendor on a beach in Vietnam has unexpectedly become a social media sensation after a video capturing her humorous English sales pitch attracted over 40 millions of views online.

The woman at the center of the story is Ms. Mai, a familiar fruit seller to many international tourists visiting Nha Trang beach.
Carrying baskets filled with fresh fruit on her shoulders, she walks along the shoreline offering fruit while calling out to visitors in English in a lively and playful tone that often makes tourists laugh.
An impromptu blend of music and street vending
The story began on August 10, 2025, when a British tourist named Louis, known online by the nickname LocalLou, was relaxing on the beach in Nha Trang with a local friend.
As Ms. Mai approached carrying her baskets of fruit, instead of using the usual sales pitch, she suddenly began singing a greeting based on the melody of the famous song “Hello” by Lionel Richie: “Hello, is it me you're looking for?”
Right after this striking introduction, she continued calling out the names of tropical fruits such as “Mango, pineapple, banana, watermelon,” rhythmically and with an infectious beat. Her humor and enthusiastic selling style quickly won over the tourist.
Amused and impressed, Louis decided to buy some fruit and shared the moment on social media. The video quickly spread online, creating a wave of attention that neither he nor Ms. Mai had expected.
International reach and a unique musical remix
Notably, Ms. Mai’s rise to fame extended far beyond viral view counts. Her story soon caught the attention of The Kiffness, the South African musician whose real name is David Scott.
Deeply impressed with the infectious rhythm of her fruit vendor’s call, he reached out to Louis with the idea of transforming the spontaneous beachside moment into a professionally produced track.
The collaboration resulted in a remix titled “Mango, Pineapple, Banana, Watermelon”, which cleverly incorporated Ms. Mai’s melodic chant into an upbeat musical composition.
Shortly after its release on YouTube, the track quickly gained momentum, amassing nearly 2 million views within just a week.
Louis said he had received numerous messages from people around the world asking for the exact location where they could meet and support Ms. Mai.
Many travellers hoped to visit Nha Trang specifically to witness firsthand the optimism and distinctive selling style of this remarkable fruit vendor.
An emotional reunion on the beach
In early February 2026, upon returning to Nha Trang, Louis had the opportunity to meet Ms. Mai again.
As soon as she recognized her old friend, she immediately ran to him and joyfully repeated her now-famous fruit-selling chant.
Despite her limited English, Ms. Mai surprised many by singing in Russian to entertain the large group of tourists.
For the time being, Louis has continued his unforgettable Vietnam trip in Hoi An, Da Nang.
He hopes that small but positive stories like Ms. Mai's will contribute to promoting the image of friendly and hospitable Vietnamese people to international friends.
These chance encounters are not only travel memories but also proof of the power of connection through sincerity and joy in everyday life.
