Japanese doctors provide free surgeries for patients with cleft lip and palate

The humanitarian program has been carried out annually over the past 26 years. It has contributed to providing treatment opportunities for disadvantaged patients while strengthening the medical cooperation between Da Nang and Japanese healthcare organizations and experts.

During this mission, the Japanese medical experts worked with doctors from the Department of Odonto-Stomatology, the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, and other specialized units of the Quang Nam General Hospital to examine, counsel and assess registered patients.

Accordingly, 47 patients underwent screening examinations. As a result, 15 eligible cases were selected for and received free surgical treatment.

The surgeries were performed safely in accordance with professional standards, helping improve eating and speech functions, and enhance patients’ ability to integrate into the community.

According to leaders of the Quang Nam General Hospital, besides its humanitarian significance, the program also provides opportunities for local doctors and medical staff to exchange expertise and access new techniques in cleft lip and palate surgery through direct collaboration with Japanese specialists.

Since its launch in 2000, the program has become a lasting bridge of compassion, bringing smiles and hope to thousands of disadvantaged children and patients across Central Vietnam.
