DNO - Being the host city for the 2027 International Congress on Mathematical Physics (ICMP) promises to open up a good opportunity for Da Nang to position itself as an attractive destination for science, education and international tourism.
Recognized as the most prestigious scientific event in the field of mathematical physics in the world, ICMP is organized by the International Association of Mathematical Physics (IAMP) every three years.
It is expected to take place from August 2 - 7, 2027 in Da Nang, with the participation of about 600 - 800 scientists from all over the world, including distinguished laureates of the Fields Medal, Abel Prize, Nobel Prize in Physics, and the Dirac Medal.
Notably, this is the second time ICMP has been held in Asia, with the first being in Japan in 1978. The event will mark the largest international scientific event ever held in Vietnam in the field of Mathematics - Physics.
ICMP 2027 is expected to attract many famous scientists, and leaders of the most prestigious scientific associations and organizations worldwide. This will contribute to promoting the image of Da Nang as an attractive destination on the global tourism and science map, and capturing the attention of the international scientific community as well.
According to experts, Da Nang has a lot of experience in organizing international events, most recently the 25th International Mathematics Competition in Vietnam (VIMC 2025) held from August 14 - 19.
Previously, in 2023, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), in collaboration with the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications (now the Department of Science and Technology) and the University of Education and Science - The University of Da Nang, successfully hosted the 10th National Conference on Mathematics, which brought together nearly 1,000 scientists. That success laid an important foundation for Da Nang’s selection as host of ICMP 2027.
According to Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice President of Duy Tan University, ICMP 2027 is a prestigious event in the field of mathematical physics. Therefore, the Duy Tan University has established working groups to meticulously prepare all technical, logistical, and infrastructural aspects.
Also, the university has concentrated on communication campaigns not only to promote the congress but also to advertise the image of Da Nang in particular and the culture and people of Vietnam in general in the digital integration era.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Ha, Executive Director of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, shared that during the six-day congress, in addition to the main sessions, a number of side activities will be organized to connect leading scientists with young researchers, university students, and even high school pupils.
The presence of the world’s top scientists in Da Nang will offer a rare opportunity to inspire the next generation, nurturing their passion for mathematics and physics and fostering a spirit of scientific inquiry among young learners, he added.
