DNO - With its rich heritage tourism resources and its orientation for sustainable tourism development, Da Nang’s Hoi An has always been a preferred destination for responsible travelers who seek not only meaningful experiences but also opportunities to share the benefits of their journeys with local communities.

Since the early years of the 21st century, Hoi An has been very attractive to visitors from Europe, America, and Australia. These traditional source markets account for around 35 - 40% of the total number of tourists visiting the ancient town.

Rather than opting for fast-paced itineraries that prioritize seeing as much as possible in a short time, these travelers from such markets tend to stay longer in order to fully absorb the charm of the heritage town.

In addition to exploring the ancient town, they spend a lot of time learning about local culture, experiencing rural villages, cycling through rice fields, taking boat trips along the Hoai River, and enjoying traditional cuisine at local establishments.

In recent years, the development of responsible tourism tours in Hoi An has further enhanced the destination’s appeal to Western travelers.

Notable examples include hands-on experiences at the bamboo space of Taboo Tamboo Workshop, “zero-waste meal” tours, river clean-up activities on the Hoai River, and organic kumquat planting tours.

For many tourists, a trip is not simply about spending money on tourism services, but also about sharing and empathizing with the lives of the local people and contributing to preserving community cultural values.

Ms. Tracey Margaret, a tourist from Australia, shared “During our two-day stay in Hoi An, my family and I had memorable experiences cycling through the countryside, enjoying local food, and especially interacting with the friendly rural residents. We will certainly return to Hoi An”.

According to Darrell Wade, Chairman of Intrepid Travel - the world's leading adventure travel company which has implemented approximately 3,000 tours in Da Nang and Vietnam for over 30 years, emphasized that a truly complete travel experience can only be achieved with the active participation of local communities.

Therefore, Hoi An is a preferred destination for most travelers when booking tours to Vietnam through Intrepid Travel.

“We always prioritize respecting local culture and practicing responsible tourism toward communities, the environment, and society. Each trip should not only bring value to tourists but also create tangible benefits for local communities” said Mr. Darrell Wade.
