DNO - Over 110 meals prepared by Singaporean tourists were delivered to elderly individuals living alone, orphans, and people with disabilities at the Quang Nam Social Protection Centre in Hoi An, offering heartfelt support to those in need.
Ling Yan Joleen shared his joy in personally handing out meal boxes and gift packages. Though the offerings were modest, just warm meals and basic necessities, the action was one of the most meaningful moments of his trip to Vietnam.
Goh Wei Loon expressed her delight in participating in the programme, noting that the eager smiles of the beneficiaries underscored the meaningful impact of the group’s efforts.
She said that the group had been pleasantly surprised when invited to join a cooking tour to support disadvantaged individuals at the centre. This was both a new and a deeply human-centred activity.
Although they had previously taken part in various charity activities during their travels in Vietnam, this was the first time they had actually prepared meals themselves for those in need.
During the programme, the group not only prepared fresh meals but also donated essential items, including blankets, warm clothing, adult diapers, mosquito nets, instant noodles, and milk. Launched in late 2023 by Sabirama Restaurant and local partners, the “Charitable Meal - Connecting Love” initiative has quickly become a distinctive and impactful community-based tourism experience.
According to Truong Van Quy, owner of Sabirama Restaurant, the programme is designed not just as a tourism product but as a journey of connection that spreads the values of responsible tourism and global compassion.
Alongside activities such as basket-boat rowing in Bay Mau Nipa Palm Forest and cooking classes, tourists purchase ingredients and essential goods themselves, prepare the meals, and personally deliver them to disadvantaged individuals.
The goal of the programme is to help visitors take home not only beautiful photos but also positive emotions and lasting memories rooted in human values.
Truong Van Quy said that some tourists, after returning home, have even come back to Vietnam to continue charitable work, further extending this message of goodwill.
