DNO - Homestay-based cultural exchanges help Da Nang students and their peers worldwide embrace new cultures, broaden global perspectives and grow into confident, creative citizens ready for international integration.
These programmes not only strengthen mutual understanding but also promote Da Nang’s image to international audiences. In the long term, such exchanges help pave the way for broader cooperation in education, tourism, investment, and economic development between Da Nang and its global partners.
This July, nine students from Changwon, South Korea, joined a weeklong homestay program with local families in Da Nang. The exchange allowed them to experience Vietnamese culture firsthand, through food, family life, and visits to iconic sites like the Museum of Cham Sculpture and Hoi An in Da Nang.
“Living with a host family helped me understand the kindness and hospitality of Da Nang’s people. I want to return with my family and explore more of the city”, said South Korean student Kang Seongwon.
Hosting the South Korean guests, local students like Le Chi Dan embraced the opportunity to connect. “We introduced our traditional dishes, took them to famous places, and shared stories. I also learned about discipline and punctuality from my Korean friend,” he said.
Earlier, Da Nang students visited Mitsuke City, Japan, performing in Ao Dai and participating in Japanese cultural activities like origami and calligraphy. These immersive experiences left strong impressions on both sides and deepened people-to-people ties.
According to Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, these exchanges deepened trust and paved the way for future collaboration in education, investment, tourism and workforce development.
Under the city’s initiative to ‘Connect Da Nang with the World’, the programme will continue to expand, welcoming more international students and opening new cultural bridges. From young learners to future leaders, these exchanges plant the seeds for lasting friendship and strategic cooperation.
