DNO - U.S. magazine Forbes has unveiled its list of the world’s 50 most beautiful villages in 2025, with Cam Thanh village in Hoi An, Da Nang the sole representative from Viet Nam, securing the 20th place.
According to Forbes, woven between coconut groves and tidal creeks, Cam Thanh hums with the rhythm of river life. Bamboo basket boats swirl through the Bay Mau nipa palm forest - their skippers casting nets in the shade of swaying fronds.
Meanwhile, on the banks, cooking classes sizzle with lemongrass and tamarind - as water buffalo graze lazily beside stilted homes.
Cyclists drift past shrimp farms and lotus ponds - the air thick with the scent of grilled squid and sweet jackfruit - but as the sun dips low, the Thu Bon River glows bronze, and the village exhales.
Cam Thanh’s latest recognition follows a string of international accolades. In 2024, global travel platform Tripadvisor named the bamboo basket boat tour through Cam Thanh’s nipa palm forest among the world’s top 25 on-the-water experiences, reinforcing its appeal as a unique eco-tourism destination.
As Vietnam seeks to position itself more prominently on the global travel map, Cam Thanh’s inclusion in Forbes’ ranking underscores the value of preserving natural landscapes and cultural heritage.
For international travellers, it is not only a chance to witness a village of rare beauty but also to engage deeply with a way of life rooted in harmony between people and nature.
Topping the global list is Bibury in Britain, famed for honey-stone cottages along Arlington Row, followed by Austria’s storybook-like Lake Hallstatt.
Reine in Norway, Giethoorn and Bourtange in the Netherlands, Oia in Greece, Kotor in Montenegro, and Russell in New Zealand also feature prominently.
Asia’s highest-ranked entries are Shirakawa-go in Japan, at 9th place, and Batad in the Philippines, at 10th, highlighting the growing recognition of the region’s rural landscapes.
In total, 11 Asian villages were included, though European villages dominated the rankings, taking 8 of the top 10 spots.
