DNO - Huynh Khuong Nguyen, 22, from the University of Foreign Language Studies under the University of Da Nang has achieved what many only aspire to: securing admission to the Master’s programme in Linguistics at the University of Cambridge.
From local classrooms to globally prestigious university
In doing so, she becomes the first student from Da Nang to be accepted into this prestigious field at one of the world’s leading academic institutions.
Her research achievements are equally notable, including prizes at both ministerial and municipal student research competitions in 2024, as well as presentations at international academic conferences.
She was selected as one of the three student representatives of Da Nang to attend the International Youth Camp in Daegu, South Korea in 2025.
Additionally, her role as an interpreter and liaison officer at various international events has enabled her to serve as a cultural bridge, fostering mutual understanding and leaving lasting impressions on international participants.
Having applied to five leading universities worldwide, Nguyen received offers from four, with the outcome from the University of Oxford still pending.
Ultimately, she chose Cambridge as her top destination, guided by a deep intellectual curiosity about language and its societal implications.
Nguyen has cultivated an impressive academic profile. She holds an IELTS score of 8.5 and a TOPIK Level 4 in Korean, while earning academic excellence scholarships for six consecutive semesters at the university.
Nguyen’s journey is defined not merely by academic excellence, but by a sustained commitment to educational equity and community impact.
While still in her third year, she founded Pinny Teaching, a free online platform offering English-language teaching materials, including lesson plans, games, and flashcards designed entirely in English.
Since its launch in October 2024, the platform has attracted more than 12,000 users worldwide, spanning countries such as the United States, Sweden, Ireland, the Philippines and Canada.
By making high-quality resources freely accessible, Nguyen has effectively bridged gaps in educational access, particularly for teachers operating in resource-constrained environments.
Empowering others through knowledge
Building on this foundation, Khuong Nguyen co-established the project “EchoEd – Where Knowledge Echoes” in September 2025. The initiative delivers free English classes to disadvantaged children at a social protection center in Da Nang.
Within the modest setting of the center, where dozens of vulnerable children reside, small classrooms come alive three evenings a week. Divided into age-appropriate groups, the students engage in lessons that are as dynamic as they are meaningful.
Before departing for the United Kingdom, Nguyen continues to give back. Her latest initiative, a free TOEIC Reading course, has enrolled 100 students nationwide.
Although participation is free, a refundable fee is required, a strategy designed to foster commitment and accountability.
As she prepares to begin her journey at the University of Cambridge, Khuong Nguyen’s story is a simple but powerful reminder: success is not only about how far you go, but also about how many people you can help along the way.
